What Are Happy Cards and How Do They Work?

Happy Cards are gift cards that can be used at multiple stores or restaurants. Each Happy Card Gift Card has a theme – Teens, Beauty, Graduation, Mother’s Day and more. The brands on each card are selected to suit the occasion or recipient. Some Happy Cards are redeemed in-store or at a restaurant. Other Happy Cards are only redeemable online.

Happy Cards are still new for many people. You might have questions about them. How do they work? Where exactly can you use your Happy Card? What’s the difference between standard Happy Cards and the eGift version?

We’re here to help. Use the table of contents below to jump to the answer to your question.

What’s the Difference Between Standard Happy Cards and Happy eGift Versions?

There are two types of Happy Cards: Standard Happy Cards and Swap Happy eGift Cards.

Standard Happy Cards resemble a credit card. Like a traditional gift card, you can stick it in your wallet, head to a store, and use it right away.

Happy Cards that say “Online Redemption Required” at the bottom are referred to as eGift or Swap Happy eGift Cards. They must be redeemed online and “swapped” for one or more electronic gift cards from the merchants featured on the Happy Card. Go to redeem.happycards.com to swap your Happy Card for eGift cards from the brands featured on the card.

Happy Cards that require online redemption cannot themselves be used as a form of payment. You simply swap that card for an eGift card of your choosing.

How Do I Use a Standard Happy Card?

If you have a Happy Card that is redeemable at physical locations (it does not say “Online Redemption Required”), simply give your gift card to the cashier or swipe the card using the credit card machine. Now, this next part is important.

A Happy Card MUST be run as a Credit payment.

It’s not a credit card. But in order for the computer to accept the payment and use the funds on the card, it must be entered as a Credit payment. You DO NOT need to use a credit card when paying. Only the Happy Card will be used, but it has to be entered as Credit, not a gift card.

That’s it! Just one simple step and you’re ready to go.

Where Can I Use a Standard Happy Card?

A Happy Card that does not say “Online Redemption Required” can be used at any physical store or restaurant brand shown on the card. You can use it for different purchases at any of the featured brands.

For example, the Happy Beauty Gift Card can be used at Sally Beauty, Sephora, Lord + Taylor, Spafinder.com, Ulta Beauty and LA Fitness. You can use the card to buy makeup at Sephora and then buy a dress at Lord + Taylor. If you have funds left on the card, you could then book a massage on Spafinder.com. All three purchases can be made using one gift card!

To know where your Happy Card can be used, just look at the front of the card. It shows the logos for every brand that accepts that particular Happy Card.
